Filmmaking seminar dares aspiring filmmakers to spark change through cinema
The Active Vista Human Rights Film Festival is trailblazing a new path in Philippine Cinema as it holds the 2nd installment of the HASIK Advocacy Filmmaking Seminar this May 18-20, 2012.
“HASIK (to spread), the Advocacy Filmmaking Program of the Active Vista Film Festival, is a platform to spread the power that films possess in shaping the consciousness of its audience.” said Leni Velasco, Active Vista Festival Director.
The free seminar shall provide opportunity to 50 aspiring filmmakers to be trained by the industry’s most brilliant and respected personalities such as the country’s premiere documentary filmmaker, Ditsi Carolino; multi-awarded director Raymond Red; scriptwriting guru, Bing Lao; topnotch independent filmmakers Francis Pasion and Sherad Sanchez; avant-garde film producer Raymond Lee; and pop culture icon Lourd de Veyra.
Active Vista will also be giving short film production grants to ten participants of the seminar whose film ideas best depict compelling human rights stories. The ten chosen films will also be a part of the Alab Short Film Competition of Active Vista and will be screened in all areas of the festival. Top three prizes shall be awarded at the Active Vista Festival Closing on December 2012.
“HASIK is an opportunity for aspiring filmmakers to wield their vision into a reality and spark change through cinema.” Velasco shared. Last 2010, Active Vista brought more than 35 human rights themed films in 17 cities nationwide, funded the training of 150 aspiring filmmakers and held the ALAB Short Film Competition which produced 10 new human rights short films. The Active Vista Film Festival will open this June 2012.
Active Vista is being organized by Dakila – Philippine Collective for Modern Heroism, an artist group founded by Lourd de Veyra, Noel Cabangon, Ronnie Lazaro, Tado and Buwi Meneses, with the support of Movies that Matter Netherlands and AusAID.
Deadline of application for HASIK is on May 10, 2012. For more information on the HASIK Advocacy Filmmaking Seminar and to download application form, visit http://www.activevista.com or email activevista@dakila.org.ph.
