Overview

2nd HR Pinduteros Choice Awards is an event that aims to contribute in promotion of human rights online while we give recognition to efforts of HR pinduteros.

Human Rights Online Philippines or HRonlinePH.com started last March of 2011 and was officially launched in December 1, 2011 at Crystal Ship Café in Quezon City.  The launch was highlighted by recognizing individuals and networks that contributed to the HRonlinePH.com’s initial success as an online community and resource on the country’s human rights condition through the 1st HR Pinduteros Awards.

More than a year after, as of December 2012 HRonlinePH.com has reached 283,598 hits or views.  Last October 2, 2012 (During Black Tuesday) and October 27, 2012 were its busiest days with 1,541 and 2,294 visitors respectively according to our statistics provided by wordpress.com, giving us an estimated average of 600 hits a day since its conception last year.

We are consistently ranking in the top 10 of the site TopBlogs.com.ph under the category politics, government and more. In fact as of December 9, 2012, we are ranked 3rd among other blogs. We have also reached 573 followers in facebook and 196 in twitter. We are also being visited by thousands of readers from other countries like the US, United Kingdom, Austria, our neighboring countries and more.

We may not be the best blog in the Philippines, but we are one of the most promising Human Rights online community of pinduteros right now!

2nd HR Pinduteros Choice Awards

In our fight against the present state of the Cybercrime prevention law, we will not be stopped in using the internet in informing, inspiring and mobilizing the netizens to our cause. We will defend internet freedom! Let our voices be heard.

In celebration of 2012 Human Rights Day and as a way to give thanks to HR Defenders who continued their support by patronizing and contributing online articles, photos, statement, press releases and other resources, HRonlinePH.com is awarding its 2nd HR Pinduteros Choice Awards.

The HR Pinduteros Choice Awards is an online event that aims to give recognition to human rights defenders’ online activities (Individuals and groups) that informed, inspired and mobilized the online readers to our common cause that is to promote, defend and assert human rights utilizing the internet as a tool.

Online polling and popularization of the event also hopes to contribute in increasing awareness and build up for the international HR day celebration every December 10, through encouraging the netizens to visit and learn more about human rights issues, campaigns and etc. posted and featured in different HR sites.

Human Rights Pinduteros is a name we coined during Dakila’s Digital Activism Training or DIGIBAK in 2011 referring to HR community of internet users, HR advocates and activists (as a network) that promote and defend HR and believe in HRonlinePH.com’s call to inform, inspire and mobilize our readers to our cause.

“2nd HR Pinduteros Choice Awards” aims to:

  1. Encourage active HR promotions and posting
  2. Recognize online efforts for human rights
  3. Promote HR activities online and offline
  4. Encourage more readers and patronage for HR sites and causes
  5. Give a glimpse on measures of effectivity and popularity of HR posts, campaigns, advocacies etc.

New movement Kilusang 99%

I write on account of significant and indicative developments happening all over the world which I think presents judicious opportunity for the Filipino people to bring about systems change.

Since December of last year, we have witnessed a global restiveness that toppled governments and encouraged mass uprisings against the economic monopoly of the rich. First, it was the Arab Spring in the Middle East, and now the Occupy Wallstreet Movement that has swept the coasts of the United States, Europe and the rest of the world. These unrests speak about a people’s desire to triumph over poverty, social injustice, inequality and corporate greed. The Occupy Wallstreet Movement is a resonance of the collective protest of the 99% suffering from joblessness and dislocation with no hope of recourse from their governments.

[Petition] Cancel the permit of Ore Asia Miningat DRT given by the DENR, Now!

The site is a fragile area part of the geohazard, it’s also an ancestral domain of the Dumagat indigenous people with no FPIC or free and prior informed consent, it’s also located in a 1 kilometer radius from Angat Watershed source of our Metro Manila Water. The area is a natural and residual forest that needs to preserve to maintain our biodivesity (flora and fauna). The Ore Asia Mining corporation has been cutting trees where they dont even have cutting permit for almost a year and this resulted to intoxication and siltation of our Biak na Bato rivers. Please Help us to gather more signatures so that our national government will act to save our Bulacan Sierra Madre.

Padyak para sa Katutubo at Kalikasan II (PKK II)

On October 14, the Church will celebrate the 35th Indigenous Peoples Sunday. A yearly event that started in 1978 by the CatholicBishops’ Conference of the Philippines, our Bishops have accepted and declared the second Sunday of October as Indigenous Peoples Sunday (formerly Tribal Filipino Sunday), thereby intending to call attention to the plight of our indigenous brothers and sisters who are so often exploited and discriminated against in our society.

To date, more than ten (10) million IPs, yearning for respect and survival, challenge us, their Christian brothers, to help redeem them from this undeserved situation. Their experience and aspiration remind us how life is interrelated with land as gift from the Creator, and the dignity of all women and men as children of God.

We, from the Prelature of Infanta and Task Force Anti-APECO, are hoping for your solidarity with our latest efforts to stop the Aurora Pacific Economic Zone and Freeport Authority (APECO). Since 2007, we’ve been campaigning against the construction of this ecozone in the town of Casiguran, Aurora.

This February 16-20, we’re launching a social media platform entitled “It’s more fun in Aurora, without APECO” to spread word and to reach out to sympathetic groups. Beyond APECO itself, this platform will be highlighting the negative impact of special economic zones and their underlying development model on the poor, showcasing concrete grassroots alternatives to APECO, in Casiguran and beyond.

[Event] 2nd Araw ng Siklista – CYCAD

This festive convergence of a growing number of Pinoy bikers, is a clear signal from our country(wo)men of their preference for non-pollutive, healthy and cheap sustainable transportation alternatives. Last year’s event was magical. Bikers foregoing a Sunday with their families to pedal the 130 km route – no accident, motorists glady shared the road, pedestrians cheered us on, And while some faltered to finish the day’s course, the stories of personal feats, meeting new friends, a sense of shared community, have not.  In this simplest contraption & come-as-you-are event, bikers go home embracing diversity, overcoming adversity, lessons in on-spot leadership & teamwork,  free-boost of self-esteem, discipline (on & off-road) and a commitment that others must savor what we have.

What do Ateneo De Manila University’s student council President, an international karate medallist from the De La Salle University, a musician from the University of the Philippines, a UAAP basketball bet from the Universidad de Santo Tomas, and a radio DJ from San Beda College have in common? Right now, they are all wearing the same thing—for a good cause.

This year, the University of the Philippines Industrial Engineering Club (UP IE Club), the Ateneo De Manila University’s Environmental Science Society (Ateneo ESS), the University of Asia & the Pacific’s ER+GO, and the Universidad de Santo Tomas’ Junior Pharmacists’ Association – Gamma Chapter (JPAGC) joined forces to produce “Good Karma Shirts”: a youth movement anchored on four shirts of different colors.

PH now in IMF creditor list – ‘sounds good, smells fishy!’ -FDC

Ricardo Reyes, FDC president, said that while such move “seems to suggest that the Philippines has gotten out of its debt problem, which of course is not true,” considering the outstanding national government debt of P4.93 trillion at present, the catch lies in the next part of the BSP announcement, which he said “smells fishy.”

According to the announcement, the country’s “continued participation in the FTP will pave the way for the BSP’s admission in the New Arrangement to Borrow (NAB) facility of the IMF.”

“BSP lends a part of our dollar reserves to IMF’s FTP so the Philippines can borrow again and borrow more from the IMF!” Reyes stressed.

[PALEA] HISTORY (Countdown to September 30 Blog. Day 1, Week 1)
by Koi Hernandez

On September 21, 1946 a group of about 50 ground technical/mechanics employees based in Nichols field, Pasay City, founded a Union popularly know as the PHILIPPINE AIRLINESEMPLOYEES’ ASSOCIATION (PALEA).

In 1952 the passage of R.A. 875 increased union membership to 1,500. By 1954, however, because of the suspension of the international flight operations, many union members were retrenched causing misery and economic hardship to their families.

The “CBA Golden” era started when the Company agreed to provide the so-called “PALEmployees’ retirement Plan of 1957” to its employees. Between 1956 and 1965 the Union was strong and stable and this was bolstered by demanding for a 40-hour work week and the filing of the rate of pay case.

The Education Budget (2011 Philippine Education Situation: series)
By Renato G. Mabunga, Ph.D.

The 1987 Philippine Constitution speaks elaborately of the right to education.  It vows to “…protect and promote the right of all citizens to quality education at all levels, and… take appropriate steps to make such education accessible to all… (1987 Philippine Constitution, Article XIV).  In principle, the Philippines takes cognizance of the normative characteristics or elements by which the right to education is founded namely: quality education, accessibility of the right and non-discrimination.  By being so, bonded itself to the obligatory nature in realizing the right both legally and politically.

The Philippine, as a state signatory to various instruments providing normative contents to the right to education, is bound by all these treaties and declarations to provide legislative as well as administrative frameworks for the realization of this right.  It must concretize its commitment to promote, protect and fulfill human rights in its development plans.

Karahasan sa kababaihan, tigilan na!
by Greg Bituin

Mga Mokong banat and pick-up lines 2011
by Mokong Perspective

Usong uso ang pamatay na pick-up lines nitong 2011.  Kaya naman sumubok ang ilang mga Mokong at Mokang to draft their own bilang pamaskong handog…eto ang Mokong banat and pick-up lines, one more time…

Mokang: (to Palparan) Lakwatsero ka ba?
Palparan: Bakit? Kasi hanggang sa panaginip mo nakakarating ako.
Mokang: Hindi.

Hehehe!

Palparan: Hindi naman ako tubig. Pero bakit sila uhaw sa ‘kin?
Mokong: Hindi kami uhaw sa ‘yo. Uhaw kami sa hustisya!

Akbayan joins PALEA: PAL must be made accountable for bad management
by Walden Bello

Akbayan is one with the Philippine Airlines Employees’ Association in their protest against Lucio Tan and Philippine Airlines Management’s reckless outsourcing plan that threatens the welfare of almost 3,000 workers and their families. We decry PALmanagement’s removal of duly qualified workers way ahead of their scheduled termination, in the process replacing them with scabs or workers unfit for the job. We condemn Lucio Tan’s greed and PAL’s decision to prioritized profit margins over the welfare of workers.

Dear colleagues, I urge you to look closer into the events that led to PALEA’s September 27 protest action to determine if it is the management or the union that should be called into account.

Let’s define KANINA and UP-DOWN-UP-DOWN
by Mokong Perspective

GMA: Kanina… lets define kanina! Kanina nasa St. Luke’s lang ako, ngayon wala na! kanina nakaalis na sana ako ng bansa, kung di dahil sa De Limang yan! At higit sa lahat DATING PRESIDENTE PA AKO KANINA, NGAYON DETAINEE NA!
