Palace to draft own Freedom of Information bill

MANILA, Philippines — President Benigno Aquino III has ordered a Palace study group to hasten efforts to come up with a final draft of the Freedom of Information bill.
“I will ask this committee that has been talking to all of the stakeholders if we can move faster on it,” Aquino said.
The President, however, admitted that “nuances” in the draft text have made it difficult to arrive at a consensus.
Aquino said he wants an FOI law that is “livable by everybody” and balances the concerns of the state with the citizens right to information.
“Even in the consultations with the stakeholders, it seems they cannot come up with an agreement,” he said.
