CHURCH JOINS LABOR CALL FOR SECURE JOBS, LIVING WAGE
3,000 Strong Subic Workers To March on May 1
On the 125th anniversary of the international Labor Day, workers from Manggagawa para sa Kalayaan ng Bayan (MAKABAYAN) a trade union and political center marks the day with nationally coordinated protest actions that underscores ‘job security and a living wage’.
Around one thousand five hundred (1,500) workers from Metro Manila will converge at Morayta, seven o’clock in the morning on May 1, 2011 (Sunday). The group will hold a short program before marching to Mendiola by eight o’clock in the morning.
They will be joined by labor groups and labor federations from Koalisyon Kontra Kontraktwalisasyon or KONTRA and religious groups and laity from Church-Labor Conference (CLC).
In Subic, Zambales, three thousand (3,000) workers from HANJIN will assemble in front of Subic National High School, Barangay Manggahan, Subic, Zambales at 9:00 a.m on May 1, 2011.
The contingent will don creative placards as they march to Barangay Wawandue Open Court for a short program. A letter of support from CBCP-NASSA- Justice and Peace Chairman Bishop Broderick Pabillo will be one of the highlights of the program.
MAKABAYAN will also hold following activities on MAY 1:
Central Luzon:
Angeles, Pampanga- a thousand (1,000) workers will assemble in Clark main gate @ 8:00 a.m. they will march towards the Clark Astro Part and proceed to Plaza Miranda for a short program.
Mariveles, Bataan – @ 8 o’150 workers will gather in a forum on the Filipino workers state @ Tri-den bldg, San Nicolas St., Mariveles, Bataan.
Mindanao:
Davao City – by 11:00 a.m. around 600 workers will hold a creative protest action in Bonifacio Monument, Magallanes St.
General Santos City – at 1:00 p.m. around 100 workers will gather at NFL Bldg. Leon Llido St., Lagao, General Santos City for a forum on the Filipino workers state.
