A new Malaysian facilitator will broker the peace talks between the Philippine government and the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF), the Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process (OPAPP) said Wednesday.
The government and the MILF started their 21st formal exploratory talks in Malaysia on Wednesday, with a new third-party facilitator in the person of the former secretary of Malaysia’s National Security Council, Tenkgu Dato Ab Ghafar Tengku Mohamed.
Ghafar will replace outgoing Malaysian facilitator Datuk Othman bin Abdul Razak, who had been brokering the talks for the past nine years.
The OPAPP quoted the Othman as saying Ghafar “has the same level of experience as him.”
