In June 2022, former President Rodrigo Duterte signed the Executive Order No. 174, which establishes a policy for the career progression of public school teachers. After a delay of almost two years, the implementation of this Career Progression Policy is now imminent.
According to the Order, there will be more positions available for classroom teachers, from Teacher I to Teacher VII and from Master Teacher I to Master Teacher V.
This is one of the long-standing advocacies of the TDC supported by some legislators and even the DepEd. The policy will ensure that teachers will advance their positions while remaining as classroom teachers.
And although there are some concerns, especially regarding the position of Head Teachers, TDC acknowledges the signing of this IRR while we continue to call for higher salaries for teachers.#
