[Statement] No to Fake Youth Partylist: genuine Filipino youth rejects proclamation of Duterte Youth Partylist

#HumanRights #Youth No to Fake Youth Partylist: genuine Filipino youth rejects proclamation of Duterte Youth Partylist

We, the Filipino Youth, call out the House of Representatives and the Commission on Elections for allowing Ducielle Marie Cardema of Duterte Youth to be sworn into office during the first day of the Special Session of the 2nd Regular Session of the 18th Congress.

Despite being unregistered with unresolved violations, the Duterte Youth was proclaimed by the Lower House and the COMELEC. Like a thief in the night, the COMELEC issued a certificate of a proclamation to Duterte Youth. This is a betrayal of the Constitution and another brazen disrespect for the Rule of Law under Duterte.

The COMELEC’s confirmation of Duterte Youth and the recent leadership fiasco in the House of Representatives shows how our government institutions have become rubber stamps for Duterte.

We condemn in the strongest of terms the proclamation of Duterte Youth. The Duterte Youth is neither a genuine youth organization nor does it sincerely serve the interests of the Filipino Youth. By its name alone, Duterte Youth shows its loyalty lies in Duterte like the Hitler Youth of Adolf Hitler’s Nazi Germany.

As young people, we refuse to be represented by a fake youth organization founded by Ronald Cardema who has a proven track record of lying to advance his political ambitions. What is at stake here is the integrity of our democracy, the integrity of our government institutions, and genuine youth representation in government.

We call on our fellow youth to stand together in calling out the COMELEC to yield to the Constitution, abide by its own regulations, and cancel the proclamation of the Duterte Youth. We also stand together with other genuine youth organizations, with every defender of democracy, and with other sectors in seeking remedy from the Supreme Court.
