Remembering people power still matters. In February 1986, the Filipino people rose as one and loudly declared: Tama Na! Sobra Na! Palitan Na! whose spirit we need badly to rekindle today.
At EDSA we declared our abomination for all the human rights violations, the lies, the thievery of a dictatorship. 33 years after, It is time again to raise our voices against the rising tide of tyranny.
During the Marcos dictatorship he was aided by traditional politicians, benefiting from political patronage in enforcing human rights violations and attack to democracy like undermining democratic institutions, attack to Free Press, Red Tagging of Peoples Organization and human rights defenders, suspected fake scenario building of rampant criminality, violence and terror, misinformation and manipulation of public perception.
Presently these are all happening again, as in history is repeating itself. The future of this country is at stake in the events unfolding before us today. And we cannot afford to be mere spectators in it. We can do something about it. Even more important than “People Power”, is people power to challenge the traditional patronage politics.
