It is imperative that the SC act in pursuit of truth and defend the pillars of justice and democracy of our country-ALG
The Alternative Law Groups denounces the Supreme Court’s decision granting the Quo Warranto petition against Chief Justice Maria Lourdes Sereno. As the last bastion of our democracy, it is imperative that the Supreme Court act in pursuit of truth and defend the pillars of justice and democracy of our country.
Section 2, Article XI of the 1987 Constitution clearly states that members of the Supreme Court may be removed from office through impeachment for, and conviction of, culpable violation of the Constitution, treason, bribery, graft and corruption, other high crimes, or betrayal of public trust.
In its decision granting the Quo Warranto petition against CJ Sereno, eight (8) members of the Supreme Court, the paragon of fairness and impartiality, have by their own hands caused the crumbling of the very pillars of justice that they ought to have defended and protected against any force and influence that threatens our democracy and freedom.
By its decision granting the Quo Warranto petition against CJ Sereno, the highest tribunal of the land has renounced its judicial independence and betrayed the trust of the Filipino people and the sanctity of our Constitution which was framed to guard our nation against dictatorship and abuse of power that once oppressed our nation.
These are very dark and desperate times that call for the upholding of the rule of law and the protection of the sanctity of Constitution and our fundamental rights as Filipinos.
