Teachers join kick-off walk for schoolchildren registration

logo TDCThe Teachers’ Dignity Coalition (TDC) is joining the Department of Education’s kick-off program for the early registration of schoolchild, 5:30AM at the Quezon City Memorial Circle.

“Our group, and the teachers in general support Philippine government’s goal to achieve education for all. This activity is just a manifestation that the DepEd is doing its tasks to reach that goal.” Benjo Basas, a public school teacher from Caloocan City and the group’s national chairperson explained.

The DepEd is expecting that at least 10 million learners will register for the next school year. The early registration is set tomorrow, Saturday in all public schools in the country where the school age children- including the out of school youth, the kids from indigenous people’s communities and even street children are expected to register.

“All systems go for this Saturday’s early registration of learners which we will conduct simultaneously nationwide for incoming kinder, regular students in all public schools as well as those who will avail of alternative delivery modes and learning systems,” said Education secretary Br. Armin A. Luistro FSC in a statement.

The TDC on its part said they appreciate the efforts made by the department especially their initiative to reach out to education stakeholders to carry out its main duty to educate the nation’s children.

“We have been a part of the multi-sectoral effort to promote people’s greater access to education and the government’s prioritization of the education sector especially in its fiscal policy. Let this event be a challenge to our candidates in May’s election to create a platform of government that will genuinely serve the education sector, as well as to the electorate to be wise voters and elect those who has proven track record in education reform advocacies.” Basas ended.

TDC members will join Sec. Luistro and other DepEd officials in the symbolic kick-off walk to mark the beginning of the early registration in public schools. #
