CBCP-NASSA’s call for the resignation of Sec. Virgilio de los Reyes | Task Force Mapalad.
December 26, 2012

23 Dec 2012 – AFTER A SERIES OF CONSULTATIONS with various stakeholders, the National Secretariat for Social Action (NASSA), the social action arm of the Conference of Catholic Bishops of the Philippines (CBCP), joins the call for the resignation of the current Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR) Secretary, Atty. Virgilio de los Reyes for the sake of the prompt and proper implementation of the agrarian reform law (CARPER).
We see that at this juncture Sec. de los Reyes has no longer ascendency over his department and his way of doing things slows down rather than speeds up the implementation of the agrarian reform program.
At this critical moment of the program his accomplishment is dismay. We call on the President of the government, who ultimately is the one responsible for the execution of the laws of the land, to heed the calls of many groups to change the present leadership in DAR to make it more responsive to the implementation of CARPER and the needs of the poor farmers the agrarian reform law is meant to serve. The accomplishments of his secretaries reflect his own governance.
Bp. Broderick Pabillo
National Director
CBCP-NASSA
