Police on alert for weeklong protests vs fuel price hikes

Police in southern Metro Manila have been placed on alert for weeklong protests planned by militant groups against recent fuel price hikes.
The Southern Police District is particularly watching the offices of oil firms in Makati City and the Department of Energy in Taguig City, radio dzBB‘s Sam Nielsen reported.
Among the tasks of the SPD are to prevent violence from marring the protests, and to make sure motorists and commuters are not affected by the protests.
SPD officials noted the corporate office of Pilipinas Shell in Makati City has been a favorite target of militant groups protesting fuel price hikes, the report added.
Only last month, militants threw paint at the oil company’s building, hitting some photographers covering the event in the process.
