Kababaihan Festival activities bared | Sun.Star.

SEVERAL activities are slated this month in celebration of Women’s Month.
Jeth Junio of the City Social Welfare and Development Officer III said women’s concerns, issues and achievements will take the center stage this month through different activities that include forums, a trade fair and a film festival.
Department of Social Welfare and Development-Cordillera division chief Perlita Panganiban said inter-agency coordination has been important in spreading awareness on women’s issues violence against women and their children and human trafficking.
This month, the Kababaihan Festival kicked off with a press launch and a meeting of the Interagency Committee on Anti-Trafficking discussing close coordination and monitoring of trafficked women in the region.
Panganiban said inter-agency coordination has helped in reducing cases of trafficked women in the region.
Last year, some 20 cases have been registered in the region with Abra having the most number of trafficked women followed by Baguio City.
Baguio City recently figured in anti-trafficking reports when eight women from Davao were forced into difficult circumstances in one of the bars in the city.
