Human rights center opens in Zambo City
Lawyers, advocates and community volunteers from non-governmental organizations who have helped to protect and promote the human rights of all conflict-affected people of Mindanao inaugurated yesterday the Zamboanga City-based satellite office of the Mindanao Human Rights Action Center (MinHRAC).
The inauguration ceremony held at Saavedra Street in Barangay Sta. Maria was graced by foreign representatives from AusAID Sam Chittick,Cynthia Petrigh; and a representative for civilian component from the international Monitoring Team (IMT) Edris Mohammad.
It was also attended by Fr. Angel Calvo, Peace Advocates Zamboanga (PAZ) president, Commission on Human Rights (CHR) Regional Director Frederick Ian Capin, Dr. Grace Rebollos of PAZ, Atty. Edilwasif Badiri of the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos (NCMF), police and military officials.
MinHRAC envisions a just and humane society where people of diverse cultures freely exercise and enjoy the full realization of their human rights. It also commits itself to empower the people especially the marginalized sectors to attain the full realization of their respective human rights.
In implementing its mission, MinHRAC, a non-stock, non-profit, non-governmental organization and an active member of the Civilian Protection Component of the International Monitoring Team of the GRP-MILF Peace Process (IMT-CPC) shall engage with other entities with identical interest and objectives.
MinHRAC is also an accredited partner NGO of the Commission on Human Rights (CHR) of the Philippines and is active in various monthly meetings aimed to coordinate institutions engaged in humanitarian and protection work.
