Dear friends and colleagues,
On behalf of the Department of Foreign Affairs, UN Women – Philippines and Ateneo Human Rights Center, we would like to invite you to the
Philippine launch of the Progress of the World’s Women in Pursuit of
Justice on 08 December 2011, 4:00 p.m., at the Auditorium of the
Department of Foreign Affairs, Roxas Boulevard, Pasay City.
The Progress of the World’s Women in Pursuit of Justice is the first
major published report of the UN Women since the consolidation of all
women-related UN agencies. The report recognizes that although the
justice system and the law play an important role in realizing the
human rights of women, still hundreds of millions of women face the
issues, such as, persistence of violence against women, exploitation
in employment, and discrimination. Inadequacy of laws and
implementation gaps still persist which makes justice still out of
reach.
The report is an important tool for women’s advocates and policy
makers since it “highlights the practical barriers that women face in
negotiating justice systems and the innovative approaches that
governments and civil society are pioneering to overcome them.”
The launch will include a short forum where noted women’s rights and
justice advocates will comment on certain portions of the report to
contextualize its relevance to the Philippines.
Attached is a copy of the program (PoWW Invite) and the report for your reference.
Kindly confirm your attendance not later than December 6, 2011 through
Ms. Vhangie Riosa at 8997691 loc. 2109 or email at
eriosa@aps.ateneo.edu.
Thank you and we look forward to see you at the launch.
Very truly yours,
Aida Jean Manipon
