Activists to greet ‘citizen Merci’ with barrage of cases – Interaksyon.com.
MANILA, Philippines – As she returns to being an ordinary citizen, Merceditas Gutierrez, whose resignation as Ombudsman becomes effective Friday, will be greeted by activists with a barrage of complaints for her alleged inaction of graft cases filed during her term.
The Kilusang Magbubukid ng Pilipinas (KMP) and the Pambansang Lakas ng Kilusang Mamamalakay ng Pilipinas (Pamalakaya) said they are filing complaints for graft and obstruction of justice against Gutierrez on before the Department of Justice at 11 a.m. Monday.
Activists from the two groups staged a rally in front of Gutierrez’s office on her last day in office.
In the resignation letter she gave President Benigno Aquino III, Gutierrez said she would become a “sovereign citizen” of the country again after leaving office.
