Metro cops undergo human-rights training ahead of Labor Day march – Interaksyon.com.
MANILA — Two hundred anti-riot policemen in Metro Manila underwent human rights training on Wednesday to remind them of the do’s and don’ts in handling protesters in preparation for the mass actions expected on Labor Day.
Members of the Metro Manila Regional Public Safety Battalion were reminded of the provisions of Batas Pambansa 880 (Public Assembly Act of 1985) and the respect for the rights of protesters in public assemblies. Representatives of the Commission on Human Rights, led by
Flora Atillano, encouraged police to “exercise maximum tolerance to allow protesters to exercise their rights to peaceful assemblies and freedom of speech and expression without bordering on violating existing laws of the land.”
