KAMPIHAN SA KARAPATAN
Project KAMPIHAN SA KARAPATAN, initiated by Human Rights Online Philippines (HRonlinePH), aims to foster collaboration between NGOs/HRD organizations and the youth through the strategic use of social media for online advocacy.
Background:
Human Rights organizations have recognized the pivotal role of the new generation in championing and safeguarding human rights. The responsibility of upholding the rights of every individual will soon rest in the hands of the youth. However, the current political climate reflects a waning interest among the youth, potentially due to misinformation and information overload from various social, technological, and media platforms lacking verification mechanisms.
Hence, it is imperative to explore innovative approaches for the youth to embrace human rights principles and concepts in analyzing contemporary political and social issues. This involves crafting effective messaging and delivery methods to not only reach them but also empower them to actively participate in the human rights movement, educating, convincing, and involving them. While attempts have been made to engage the youth in pressing social concerns, such as climate change and prevalent human rights abuses, their involvement has not been as substantial as needed.
HRonlinePH endeavors to bridge these divides by motivating the youth to take a stand. This is achieved by providing them a platform for collaboration and partnership with human rights groups, where they can leverage their creativity and technological prowess to bolster the online advocacy efforts of these organizations.
“KAMPIHAN SA KARAPATAN” represents a shared commitment to effecting tangible change. It is a call to action, uniting the youth and human rights organizations. It embodies human rights in action, both in the digital realm and the physical world.
Through “Project KAMPIHAN SA KARAPATAN”, the youth play a pivotal role in designing the online human rights campaigns of the chosen NGO partners. Concurrently, human rights organizations assume the responsibility of educating the youth on human rights in general, as well as on specific thematic issues. This fosters a deeper commitment and understanding of their role in advancing and safeguarding human rights.
Objectives:
The objectives of “Project KAMPIHAN SA KARAPATAN” are:
Facilitating shared learning by promoting knowledge exchange and experiential learning between human rights advocates and youth on the effective use of social media in advocacy campaigns.
Encouraging the youth to actively participate in human rights campaigns, transforming them into advocates for human rights.
Promoting unity in action by establishing partnerships between youth and selected NGOs, potentially leading to long-term collaborations between human rights organizations and participating educational institutions.
Amplifying impact by raising awareness on human rights, especially among the Gen Z demographic, and cultivating a critical mass for human rights advocacy.
Mechanics:
- HRonlinePH will oversee and guide the overall implementation of the project.
- Three or more human rights organizations/non-governmental organizations and three or more youth/student groups from distinct educational institutions will be invited to accept and participate the KAMPIHAN CHALLENGE. After an orientation on the project concept, a Terms of Reference (ToR) will be formulated to delineate their respective roles and responsibilities.
- All parties involved must endorse the ToR to ensure the delivery of project outputs (online human rights campaigns) and the attainment of KSK objectives.
- The online campaigns will run for a duration of until November 2024 in each participating educational institution.
- The most effective online campaign will be selected and honored with a cash prize and a plaque of recognition during the 14th Human Rights Pinduteros Choice Awards Night in December 2024, commemorating International Human Rights Day. The criteria for evaluating the most effective online campaign will include Content and Messaging (SBCC: Clarity and consistency with human rights standards, informativeness), Creativity and Originality (Uniqueness and the ability to inspire action and participation), and Popularity (Widest audience reach, likes, and shares; public support generated).
- At the year’s end, partners will be invited for a participatory evaluation to explore the possibility of sustaining the partnership.
