The Teachers’ Dignity Coalition (TDC) strongly condemns the brutal killing of two professionals in Bangued, Abra, on March 26, 2025. The victims have been identified as Dr. Francisco Beria, a dentist, and Mr. Odilon Peria, a teacher. Dr. Beria also served as the president of the Philippine Dental Associations provincial chapter, while Mr. Peria, according to TDC sources, was a well-loved and dedicated teacher assigned in Abra National High School.
We extend our deepest condolences to the families, colleagues, and students of the victims, whose lives were senselessly taken in an act of violence that has no place in our society.
We urge authorities to conduct a thorough and immediate investigation to ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice. This tragic incident underscores the persistent threat of violence in historically volatile areas like Abra, especially as election tensions continue to escalate following the start of the local campaign period on March 28.
TDC urges the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) and law enforcement agencies to tighten security measures in these areas to protect the general public, teachers, and others involved in the electoral process. No teacher, professional, or citizen should have to live in fear.
Justice must be served, and stronger safeguards must be put in place to prevent such tragedies from happening again.
