Alyansa Tigil Mina (ATM) joined calls supporting the Masungi Geopark Project as it criticized the DENR for its planned cancellation of the 2017 Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with the Masungi Georeserve Foundation.
“We fully support the Masungi Georeserve Foundation for its successful reforestation and management of the Masungi Georeserve Park,” said Jaybee Garganera, ATM National Coordinator. “The justification of the DENR to cancel the MOA is flimsy and uses a technicality that misses the broader picture of conserving the Masungi Georeserve as a necessity for future generations.”
“The Foundation has undoubtedly done a great job concerning environmental protection, which has earned accolades internationally. Instead of cancelling the MOA, the DENR should ensure that the Foundation further expands its efforts and aid them by removing the illegal occupants in the area,” Garganera concluded.
