On July 23 to 26, more than 40 indigenous leaders and movers from various tribes across Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao will convene the State of Indigenous Peoples Address 2023.
SIPA 2023 is a national gathering of indigenous peoples (IPs) as a counterpoint to the State of the Nation Address (SONA) of the President of the Philippines. We seek to present to the Filipino people the true state and plight of IPs, their issues and concerns, their aspirations and their struggles, to protect and promote their rights as peoples.
SIPA 2023 is a space for reflection on the struggles of IPs a year into the administration of President Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos Jr., a year marked by unimpeded encroachments into ancestral domains, worsening economic woes, and shrinking civic spaces.
It is from these shared deliberations that SIPA 2023 aims to build solidarities and common actions to assert indigenous rights.
