TDC: DBM Chief Statement undermines the value and dignity of teaching profession

“Sec. Diokno’s insensitive statement that teachers’ salary increase is not a priority contradicts the intention of his principal, President Rodrigo Duterte. More so, it undermines the value and dignity of teaching profession and the everyday sacrifices of our teachers who patiently waited for this promised salary increase. Furthermore, his claim that the average increase in salaries of teachers by now is 15-16 per cent is far from reality. Because under EO 201 that took effect in the year 2016, the pay for teachers’ entry-level position will only have a total increase of 12% compared to 2012 status and it will be given in four tranches from 2016 up to 2019.” -TDC
