Emergency appeal for Camiguin-Archdiocese of Cagayan de Oro

AN APPEAL FOR CAMIGUIN

Another typhoon struck Northern Mindanao. This time Typhoon Gener hit the Island Province of Camiguin last July 27, 2012.

All five parishes in Camiguin; Mambajao, Mahinog, Guinsiliban, Sagay and Catarman were not spared of destruction. Continuous heavy rains generated flashfloods which uprooted trees, with tons of mud and rocks rolling down from the mountains, and strong winds blowing houses away.

Damage assessment reveal the following figures: 26 totally damaged houses, 22 partially damaged houses, and 1,683 flooded houses, for a total of 1,731 affected families.

Damage to infrastructure which directly affected all residents of Camiguin is the destruction of the water system of the entire province, except Mambajao.

Immediate assistance needed are food; particularly rice, noodles, canned goods and
drinking water; medicines, particularly for fever, coughs and colds; hygiene materials like laundry and bath soaps; kitchen wares; blankets, mats, and mosquito nets.
