About iHumanRights

The iHumanRights Project (ihumanrights.ph) is collaborative undertaking among the Commission on Human Rights of the Philippines (CHRP) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) with the overall objective of improving the human rights condition in the country.

The Project provides an e-based tool to monitor the compliance of the Philippines in the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) findings and recommendations. The UPR is a unique process which involves a review of the human rights records of all 192 UN Member States once every four years. The UPR is a significant innovation of the Human Rights Council that is based on equal treatment for all countries. It provides an opportunity for all States to declare what actions they have taken to improve the human rights situations in their countries and to overcome challenges to the enjoyment of human rights. The ultimate goal of UPR is the improvement of the human rights situation in every country with significant consequences for people around the globe.

The Philippines is one of the first States to have ratified all of the seven core international human rights treaties currently in force and other human rights-related instruments.

The system provides a geographic information system that maps out all reported cases of human rights violation in the country. These cases can be grouped into several taxonomies such as but not limited to its status, location by region, city or municipality, victims age and sex, and offender. All human rights stakeholders are also map out such as the Commission on Human Rights of the Philippines and its regional offices, police stations, military installations, local government units, and non-governmental organizations and civil society organizations. Contact information of each unit are also available.

Also accessible in the system are the human rights instruments and human rights mechanisms as provided for by the United Nations. All human rights initiatives of the government in its three branches, namely the executive, legislative and the judiciary are also available. These include executive orders and issuances, laws passes and pending bills, and decided cases of the Supreme Court.
