HRBA2J-ASIA, CHR, PNP-HRAO and UNDP-PHILIPPINES launch book and hold forum that explores links between human rights and equal access to justice (EA2J)

The Asian Consortium for Human Rights-based Approach to Access to Justice or HRBA2J-Asia, in cooperation with the Commission on Human Rights of the Philippines (CHRP), the Philippine National Police-Human Rights Affairs Office (PNP-HRAO) and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP)-Philippines launch a manual titled “Human Rights-Based Approach to Realizing Equal Access to Justice.” The manual was a result of the pilot training workshop attended by a total of 30 participants from ten (10) Asian countries held last April 4-7, 2011in Manila.

The Manual contains three (3) modules: Module 1 Equal Access to Justice: Situational Context and Framework, Module 2 Human Rights Approach to Realizing Equal Access to Justice and Module 3 Developing Human Rights-based EA2J Interventions. The manual is a contribution to the development of tools to strengthen capacities of access to justice practitioners from both government and civil society entities in applying human rights norms, standards and principles to realize EA2J in the design, development and programming of EA2J interventions.

Writer-trainer and noted human rights practitioner, Ms. Maria Socorro “Cookie” Diokno will present highlights of the Manual. More importantly, the launch will also feature a talakayan that hopes to share lessons of some good practices of rights-based approaches from both government and civil society perspectives. Envisioned results of the forum also include “expanded perspectives, constituency and building social dialogues in pursuing HRBA-EA2J work.”

Open to the public, the manual launch and forum is on May 9, 2012, 8:30-11:30 noon at the PNP MultiPurpose Hall, Camp Crame, EDSA, Quezon City.
