Greetings from the Philippine Alliance of Human Rights Advocates (PAHRA)!
Last year on December 8, we successfully launched the Civil Society Organization (CSO)- Peoples Monitoring Mechanism (CSO-PMM) during the Commission on Human Rights’ “Ulat sa Bayan” wherein we symbolically turned over to Chairperson Loretta Rosales documentation of human rights violations.
Currently, the Philippine Alliance of Human Rights Advocates (PAHRA), Philippine Human Rights Information Center (PhilRights), and Task Force Detainees of the Philippines (TFDP) serve as the secretariat of the CSO-PMM.
The monitoring mechanism was designed as a platform for the broadest possible number of NGOs, peoples’ organizations and Human Rights Defenders that responds to human rights violations by:
a.) monitoring and documentation of incidents of human rights violations;
b.) providing statistics, analysis, and reports on the human rights situation in the country;
c.) facilitating immediate and programmatic response to reported violations; and
d.) coordinating campaigns towards prevention of violations and breaking of impunity.
The December 8 launching was an important undertaking to introduce this initiative to the public but we have yet to discuss and agree on operational details such as the monitoring agenda, roles and tasks of the organizations, protocols in data gathering, etc. Thus, to tackle these matters we would like to invite you to our general meeting on January 31, 2012, 12:00 to 5:00 pm at the Max’s Restaurant, Quezon Memorial Circle.
Sincerely yours,
Max de Mesa, Chairperson
