Give2Asia Launches Disaster Response for Philippines Flooding

Give2Asia has launched its Philippines Typhoon Washi Disaster Fund 2011 to receive donations from individuals, clients, and partners who wish to participate regional projects related to Tropical Storm Washi and the resulting floods.
Typhoon Washi devastated the largest island in the Southern Philippines, Mindanao, late Friday night, causing flash floods and killing nearly 1,000 people. Because the area’s natural landscape has been cleared by illegal logging and pineapple plantations, the immense rain could not be contained by the soil and sent torrents of water, mud, and logs down the mountains and through riverside homes and villages. The flooding left over 40,000 people homeless and the government has declared a state of calamity in the region. Rebel military groups, long active in Mindanao, have called a temporary truce with the government in response to the local suffering.
Give2Asia is currently monitoring the situational needs of the affected communities and exploring opportunities for effective, efficient response with our local partners.
