All-out war will exact ‘high price in blood,’ PNoy warns

MANILA, Philippines – President Benigno Aquino III on Friday warned that proposals to launch an all-out war against the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) will only result in a terrible toll on human lives, particularly among the people of Mindanao.
“Magandang headline natin ngayon, anong presyo sa dugo ng ganyang mungkahi?” he asked reporters, in response to a question asking if he won’t change his mind regarding his refusal to order an all-out military assault against MILF troops in Mindanao.
He said the people should be more sober and think about the consequences if a full-scale war erupts again in Mindanao. “Pare-pareho tayong may responsibilidad na matino, pag-isipan ang pangyayari, at mahinahong magdesisyon,” he said.
Aquino went to the Libingan ng mga Bayani Friday night to pay his final respects to 15 of the 19 soldiers killed by alleged joint Abu Sayyaf and MILF troops Tuesday.
He talked to the slain soldiers’ families to personally give his condolences.
“Gusto nila ng katarungan para sa kanilang mga kamag-anak,” he said, adding that the relatives of one soldier asked why he was suddenly sent to a dangerous mission when they knew all along that he was just studying.
