The Roundtable Discussion Series on Rio+20 (officially, the UN Conference on Sustainable Development or UNCSD 2012) have tackled the state of discourses and issues on institutional framework for sustainable development (IFSD), issues in green economy and Philippine experiences in sustainable economies. Representatives from a total of 36 national CSOs actively participated in the three roundtable discussions held since June. A wealth of views and proposals have been put forward by participants in these discussions, with the aim of understanding the issues at stake at Rio+20 and offering civil society inputs to the themes.
As the Asia-Pacific regional preparatory meeting on Rio+20 nears, the Roundtable Discussion will zoom in on alternative models of sustainable economy and governance advocated by Philippine CSOs as a positive and strategic approach to cohere the CSO inputs to the key themes of green economy and IFSD that governments will tackle in Seoul on 19-20 October. The discussion will aim to come up with a coherent body of civil society inputs on the Rio+20 themes that can be presented to the Philippine government delegation at regional meeting in Seoul, as well as a formal submission of Philippine CSOs to the Zero Draft/Compilation Document for the Rio+20 negotiating document by 1 November.
