MANILA, Philippines – State universities and colleges (SUCs) nationwide on Friday held prayer rallies, noise barrages, mass planking, stop dance, and parade of colors to protest the low budget for education.
“The nationwide strike embodies the outrage of our SUCs against the inaction of the Aquino administration to reverse the cuts and provide sufficient funding for our public universities,” Kabataan partylist Rep. Raymond Palatino said.
Palatino said SUCs all over the country were given only P21.8 billion in the proposed 2012 budget. This is short of P24 billion based on the budget being requested by SUCs, he said.
The partylist lawmaker on Tuesday submitted to the committee on appropriations a list of proposed amendments to the budget, including the P24 billion increase.
