“The best way to commemorate Martial Law is to celebrate its downfall.”
Beinte Singko: A Festival of Memories, A Creation of New Stories
Beinte Singko commemorates the downfall of dictatorship by bringing back the memories and stories about heroism of freedom fighters, human rights defenders, activists and revolutionaries under the dictatorship.
A Festival of Memories
Coinciding with the commemoration of the 39th year Anniversary of the Declaration of Martial Law by the late President Ferdinand Marcos, TFDP and Youth for Rights (Y4R) launched Beinte Singko at the De La Salle College of Saint Benilde in Manila and St. Joseph’s College in Quezon City on September 21, 2011.
The activity was in Partnership with the Center for Social Action (CSA) of the DLS-CSB and the human rights youth organization ANAWIM of Saint Joseph’s College, QC.
The Beinte Singko Photo exhibit has also started at the Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila (PLM) and will be officially launched on September 24. This is in partnership with the Bukluran Students’ Alliance based in PLM.
The Martial Law Photo Exhibits will run until next week.
Meanwhile, as part of the festival of memories campaign, TFDP has also started posting commemorative pictures online through Facebook. You can visit us and like TFDP’s Facebook page -www.facebook.com/pages/Task-Force-Detainees-of-the-Philippines/
