Unity, Solidarity For PALEA
by Rommel Yamzon (Life in a Box)
Manila Auxiliary Bishop Broderick Pabillo together with major labor groups and faith-based institutions expressed their solidarity for the Philippine Airlines Employees Association (PALEA) in a press conference held in Manila, September 8, 2011.
The group ensures PALEA of their support in their battle against the planned termination of 2,600 employees this year by Philippine Airlines (PAL) management.
PALEA is continuously asserting that regular jobs should be maintained. The employees association said that PAL’s outsourcing plan reflects the blatant mockery of labor relations in the country, and deliberately disregarding the rights and welfare of the toiling masses.
Meanwhile, the group collectively claimed that the fight against contractualization is a struggle for dignity and future of all workers. They added that a victory for PAL employees will be a major gain in pushing for job security and a decent standard of living for the people.
