Scrimped spending for schools stagnates quality of education
by SAMMY MARTIN
THE Commission on Higher Education (CHED) on Tuesday admitted that budget cut is one of the main factors considering that University of the Philippines, the country’s leading government run university, slid down from its previous ranking on the Quaquarelli Symonds (QS).
Atty. Julito Vitriolo, CHED executive director, however downplayed QS latest ranking claiming that this is not a reflection of the supposed deterioration of the quality of tertiary education in the country neither this should be a gauge of the schools performance.
“Although hindi ito reflection ng condition ng education at ng performance ng schools sa atin, this should serve as a wake up call.” Vitriolo said.
He added that budget cut in state universities and colleges (SUCs) not only in UP has affected the operation of SUCs. He said the government should consider this development.
