Calumpang is our land — Tarlac Aetas
by : George Hubierna
BAMBAN, Tarlac — With the raging of the boundary dispute between Tarlac and Pampanga, the aborigines of this province finally broke their silence and declared that the disputed land is their “birthright and is registered to them.”
“Ang lupa ng Calumpang ay pag-aari ng mga katutubong Aeta ng Tarlac. Sakop ito ng mahigit 10,000 ektaryang lupa na nakatala sa Certificate of Ancestral Domain Title (CADT) No. 025,” declared Lady Gutierrez-Sibal, a tribal leader who is the former president of the Bamban Aeta Tribal Association (BATA).
Sibal’s statement came in the wake of the heightening of the boundary dispute between Pampanga and Tarlac now referred to as “silent war” between the two provinces.
The more than 3,000-hectare Calumpang village is located within the “historical jurisdiction of Bamban” being a sitio of this town’s Bgy. San Vicente.
