Leyte ordinance on persons with disabilities gains support | Sun.Star.

AT LEAST two government agencies have expressed support to the ordinance recognizing the importance of persons with disabilities (PWDs) filed before the Leyte Provincial Board.

Leyte fourth district Board Member Deborah Bertulfo, chairperson of the Committee on Social Services, said the regional offices of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and Commission on Human Rights (CHR) have endorsed the ordinance declaring the month of July as PWD Consciousness Month.

The ordinance was authored by Leyte first district Board Member Roque Tiu.

“During the consultative meeting, the DSWD regional director (Leticia Diokno) has suggested that the province should put up a rehabilitation center that will cater to the needs of the PWDs,” Bertulfo said. “The CHR also recommended that a massive education be conducted so that the public may know the rights of the PWDs.”
