a Niche in the Philippine and Asian Setting
The PIRS, Inc. (Philippine Industrial Relations Society) invites you to submit research papers that illustrate relevant, exemplary and innovative accomplishments, and achievements, on industrial relations with focus on the Philippines and Asia.
THEME TRACKS
I. Managing Work and Organization (HRM)
II. Voice and Representation (Workplace Partnership)
III. Work, Family and Community (Civil Society Participation, Informal Sector, Labor Migration, Gender, Health and Work Life Balance)
IV. Institutions, Processes and Outcomes (Labor Laws and Governance)
Objectives of the Conference:
Objective 1: Share achievements, challenges, opportunities from actual IR/HR work, initiatives and experiences at the level of policy, practice, research and education, applicable in the Philippines and Asia.
Objective 2: Document the different successful recent experiences, concepts and models; and determine the indicators of success and their applicability in the Philippine and global IR/HR system.
Objective 3: Recommend viable initiatives for practical, academic, legislative and legal institutionalization of IR/HR experiences/cases.
A “niche” refers to a point/place of expertise, “forte”, a specialty or specialization, a strong point developed with knowledge and skilled experiences, which has been applied and could be institutionalized.
Guidelines for Submission of Paper Abstracts:
1. Only one author can be listed as the presenter. Co-authors are welcome to attend the session but cannot pose as the presenter.
3. All abstracts must be in English.
4. All abstracts must be limited to 450 words, use Times New Roman, 12 font. Handwritten abstracts will not be accepted. The title and the designated presenter are not included in the word count. Headings within the abstract are included in the word count. Any abstract longer than 450 words will be returned.
5. Acronyms and abbreviations should be spelled out at first use.
6. All abstracts must be submitted electronically. The Conference Secretariat must receive your abstract by no later than April 30, 2011.
Guidelines for Abstract Contents:
Abstract Title: How does your presentation (study, program, activity) demonstrate accomplishments, achieved experiences as carving a ‘niche’ to IR/HR initiatives?
Presenter and co-authors: Who was/were involved in the study, program, activity? Describe nature of involvements/s.
Learning Objectives: What will participants learn as a result of attending this presentation?
Background: What was the purpose of your study, program, activity? What were the key objectives? When and where did it take place? How long did it last? How many people were involved in the study, program, activity?
Design/Methods: How was the study, program, activity conducted? How were the data/information gathered and analyzed (cite specific methods used).
Results/Outcome or Current Efforts and Implications: What are the results or outcomes of your study, program, activity? How far have been the new ideas, practices been used and describe extent of relevance and impact. What have been additional documented benefits, e.g., human resource management approaches, working conditions, community cohesion, local enterprise development, greater incomes and livelihood opportunities?
Conclusion: What are the implications and conclusions as indicated by the data? What are the potential applicability or replication in other settings, aside from the Philippines?
Review and Notification:
Your abstract will be submitted to a review committee. The conference organizers will notify you when abstract has been accepted. Once the abstract has been accepted, you will be required to submit the full paper for final review on or before June 30, 2011. Once accepted, confirm your attendance on or before August 1, 2011.
