Isa sa mahalagang hakbang sa Community Drug Rehabilitation Program (CDRP) upang ganap na makamit ang totoong pagbabago, kinakailangan dumaan sa mabusisi at komprehensibong assessment at evaluation ang isang tao. Ang pagtuklas sa kasaysayan ng substance abuse ng bawat indibidwal, pagsusuri sa kanilang kasalukuyang kalagayan, at pag-alam sa anumang mental health disorder ay importante upang mabigyan ng angkop na programa base sa kung ano ang kinakailangan nito. Dahil iba iba tayo ng karanasan, iba iba rin ang solusyon.
