Statement o pagpapakita ng galit to the MAX.

Ayaw mong magmura? E kaya you deserved to be cursed too. Ika nga daw “an eye for an eye…”

[Blog] Yes, it is good to be online. But we can still do it better offline -HRonlinePH.com

Yes, it is good to be online. But we can still do it better offline

Presented during the 4th HR Pinduteros Choice Awards night, December 1, 2014, Conspiracy Bar and Garden Cafe.

I BELIEVE we have all acknowledged that the internet plays a crucial tactical role in advancing our advocacies.

We are in fact dazzled by the viral hype surrounding our online campaign and that of others.

Photo by Take back The Tech

Photo by Take back The Tech

It is really good to look at the metrics and see how it is shooting up with all the hits, likes and comments we are receiving. The analytics has its own value to show us our own trends.

But the question remains to be answered is this: Are we really faring up in the battle of information? Or is internet organizing our only means to reach out a wider population or even our own families, friends and networks? Do we really believe that in one click of the mouse, we can spark a social revolution?

Lest we forget as history attests that social change is always improbable, unpredictable, and sometimes spontaneous.

Only real-life action is the only way to achieve a genuine social transformation. Clicking a link can never replace our voice in the streets. Nor can we rely on social media alone to get people off their screens.

Yes, it is good to be online. But we can still do it better offline.
To inform, to inspire and to mobilize people for change virtually can never outdo the way we do it in an interfaced and personal way.

We are human beings after all with all the potentials to change and to change the world.

4th Human Rights Pinduteros’ Choice Awards

WHAT IS 4TH HR PINDUTEROS small

Human Rights Online Philippines (HRonlinePH.com) is holding its 4th Human Rights Pinduteros’ Choice Awards, an annual online event recognizing remarkable efforts of human rights defenders in maximizing the internet for the promotion, assertion and defense of human rights.

4th HR Pinduteros’ Choice Awards is our way of showing gratitude to our contributors, partners and networks in their continuous support for the success of HRonlinePH.com as a human rights resource site. It also aims to help in the promotion of the annual international human rights day celebration by holding online HR information dissemination and polling campaign to encourage more visitors for human rights articles, campaign and sites posted by our networks.

It also hopes to give a glimpse of the readership reach for each article that our network shared online.

In partnership with the Foundation for Media Alternative (FMA), this year’s theme is “Internet Rights are #HUMANRIGHTS.”

FMA will also be awarding for the first time an “Internet Freedom Award”.

THE PROPONENT- HUMAN RIGHTS ONLINE PHILIPPINES or HRONLINEPH.COM

HRonlinePH Fellow bloggers 1st Meeting July 16, 2011 @ Greenhaus Restaurant Q.C.It was in March of 2011 when a group of HR pinduteros working in different human rights NGOs started HRonlinePH.com and it was officially launched on December 1 of the same year through the 1st HR Pinduteros Choice Awards held in Quezon City.

The intention was to create an online initiative that will help popularize Human Rights issues and concerns through mobilizing concerted efforts of individual defenders coming from different HR groups.

HRonlinePH.com aimed at organizing different campaigns through the building of an online HR network that will be working together with the call to inform, inspire and mobilize people to HR causes.

By generating readers and followers online the group aims to contribute in putting human rights online, thus making human rights issues, information and resources available and visible to the internet.

In its 3 year of existence as a resource website HRonlinePH.com consistently ranked in the top 3 political blogs according to TopBlogs.com.ph based from unique visits that they measure each day. According to the wordpress.com’s statistics as of October 2014, the site has reached 558,240 hits, 2,678 subscribers and an estimated average of 800 visitors a day. The site also has 1,817 followers on facebook and 348 on Twitter.

Gabriela party-list files bill to penalize online exploitation of women | Sun.Star.
January 15, 2013

sunstar-network copyMANILA — Representatives of the women’s party-list group Gabriela filed on Tuesday a bill seeking to amend the Anti-Violence Against Women and Children Act to include the online exploitation of women.

Gabriela party-list Representatives Luzviminda Ilagan and Emmi de Jesus filed House Bill (HB) 6815, defining electronic violence against women (E-Vaw), providing protective measures and prescribing penalties therefore.

In the proposed bill, E-Vaw is defined as “any act or omission that involves the use or exploitation of information and communications technology (ICT) that causes or likely to cause mental, emotional or psychological distress or suffering to the victim.”

Hey Coke! RESPECT workers’ rights!

Coca-cola Philippines is destroying regular jobs. So the next time you open a bottle of an ice cold Coke, just stop…. and think. Think about what’s behind this cold drink and “cool” image.

Description

The next time you pop a top or crack a cap on an ice cold Coke, just
stop…. and think. Think about what’s behind this cold drink and
“cool” image. Think about the thousands of Filipinos who make Coke.
Think fast because they’ll be gone soon. Why?

Because Coke is replacing good regular jobs with insecurity and fear. How?

By refusing workers of job security and union rights.

Coke is going to be rights-free zone right here in the Philippines.

No rights, no respect. No respect for the people who make Coke and make it all
happen.

So, what’s cooler is to send Coke a message: “Hey Coke! RESPECT workers’ rights!”

Take a photo such as this one (attach your photo hehe!) and put on your facebook status.
And tag https://www.facebook.com/HeyCokeRespectWorkersRights?

[Statement] RA 10175 is an Anti-Cybercrime Law that criminalizes internet freedom an assault to human rights! -HRonlinePH.com

RA 10175 is an Anti-Cybercrime Law that criminalizes internet freedom an assault to human rights!

Human Rights Online Philippines (HRonlinePH.com), a group of human rights defenders online, stands against the present state of the Anti-Cyber Crime Law and we demand that such law must be consistent with human rights standards and perpetrators behind this spiteful law be held accountable.

RA 10175 or Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012 is a State crime and an assault against the human rights of the people. HRonlinePH.com is one with the Filipino netizens in condemning its intention to deliberately go against our right to defend human rights online.

Under the law, activists and human rights defenders will be the obvious and primary target of attacks by guilty politicians and government officials. The intentional inclusion/insertion of treacherous provisions poses great danger to defenders utilizing the internet in its work to promote, defend and assert human rights against violators from the government.

The law is an obvious assault to many of the peoples’ rights both activists and ordinary citizens like free speech, freedom of expression, due process and among others. It is inconsistent with government’s obligation to respect, protect and fulfill human rights as provided in the Bill of Rights under the Philippine constitution and international Bill of Rights.

The law is also a blatant breach of the Government’s obligation and commitment to the United Nation International Covenant on Civil Political Rights (ICCPR) which states that;

Article 19
1. Everyone shall have the right to hold opinions without interference.
2. Everyone shall have the right to freedom of expression; this right shall include freedom to seek, receive and impart information and ideas of all kinds, regardless of frontiers, either orally, in writing or in print, in the form of art, or through any other media of his choice.

Certainly we need a law that would protect the people from cyber criminals and it’s our elected officials’ obligation to provide us one. But we cannot allow a law that would be used to suppress any of our democratic rights and freedom may it be on the internet or on the grounds. We must not allow any law that violates standards and protection of our rights.

We challenge and demand that PNoy government fulfill its duty and obligation to protect us. Protect the people from cyber criminals and from any form of attacks of human rights violators from the government.

We reiterate and assert that it is our right to defend human rights offline and online and any law that would violate these rights must be junked and perpetrator must be held accountable!

It is obviously the intention of the malicious provisions of the law for guilty politicians to protect themselves by depriving the people of venues for airing demands and remedy for their issues.

It is not a crime to criticize government inaction and irresponsibility, it is our right!
It is not a crime to expose government violations, it is our right!
It is not a crime to assert and defend our rights, it is our right!
But it is a CRIME by the Government to violate our internet freedom because it is our human rights!

Ayansa Tigil Mina (ATM) Solidarity Message to HR Online

Solidarity Message to HR Online <https://hronlineph.com/>

Alyansa Tigil Mina commends HR Online and the people behind this powerful online site! To our friends in HR Online, Happy Anniversary and congratulations for a very effective first year online campaign!

ATM is appreciative of HR Online’s effort to be the center of information on news, statements, photos, videos and links on human rights concerns, not just in the Philippines but also internationally.

This has helped many people share their stories, photos, videos and other multi media presentations. HR Online is also a good source of materials on human rights—this is only one of its kinds in the country so far and we are glad to be part of its beginnings and successes.

We look forward to HROnline becoming a central portal and knowledge site that will push forward the concerted efforts of environmental activists and IP support groups for a more robust and dynamic engagement of communities, NGOs and the state towards social justice and genuine human rights.

In behalf of mining-affected communities and advocates, again, congratulations and more power!

Rights groups, bloggers launch HR Online Philippines website.

A group of human rights defenders and bloggers found each other and launched the Human Rights Online Philippines (HROnlinePH) website http://hronlineph.com in Quezon City on Dec. 2.

Its initiators said the website seeks to promote and protect human rights in the Philippines through Information Resources Online.

How HROnlinePH started?

Once editorial decision and content were finalized, the team, considered how best to interact with individual and group human rights advocates and to share online resources; and then the initial group began tackling possible organizational identity.

HROnlinePH team had lot of work to do before the http://hronlineph.com to be registered as site, and developing an editorial policy was first on the list.

Please take a look at the site and you will see entries written by personalities like Fr. Shay Cullen, mssc, of People’s Recovery, Empowerment Development Assistance Foundation (PREDA), Dr. Renato G. Mabunga of the Human Rights Defenders (HRD)-Pilipinas and Prof. Walden F. Bello.

Bloggers’ network and various human rights organizations in the Philippines launch HRonlinePH movement and portal on 1st December 2011 at Crystal Ship Café, Quezon City. Started as a simple discussion of ideas of promoting human rights online, a group of enthusiastic bloggers and human rights defenders found each other, shared information on human rights and formed HROnlinePH. Today, it finds its niche as an effective resource on the country’s human rights condition.

Internet and social media play an important role in information-communication today. There has been an upsurge in the number of sites, and now HRonlinePH joins the larger movement of electronic campaign. HRonlinePH draws its activities through individual opinions of bloggers, facebook members, and twitters’ network on current Philippine issues. It is also highlighted by facilitation of various statements, position papers and campaign advocacies of organizations of various political traditions and affiliations to land a spot in both the print media and the digital world. It interfaces with the other human rights websites and resources online, and organizational identity in an attempt to promote an issue that best captures international human rights principles.

HROnlinePH (or Human Rights Online Philippines) is a movement specialized to promoting and protecting human rights in the Philippines through Information Resources Online. As a movement, it may fan a successful revolution as exemplified by the Arab Spring. Yet, it knows so well, that it is not THE revolution where human rights may find its place in the hearts of the States. It may be a part; it can be a part; and for HRonlinePH, it must be an essential part of winning a battle for the dignity of persons.
