[Literary] We never learn! by Von Adlawan

We never learn!
by Von Adlawan

September 21, 1972
It might be just a number
or a routine of ordinary day
but for others a stained in their diary!

That day for activist was rare
’cause- street is sanctuary
of voiceless protest,
becoming a spark creating fire!

That day for laborers
initiated baptism of fire
unity becomes power
La tondenia saw the fire!

Urban poor gathered spear
Parola armor has geared
With Holy Father’s blessing
The priest has embarked in plain!

Student activists created
streets as source of wisdom,
truncheon and water canon
their butter and bread!

Student leaders defined
their leadership for the masses
Makamasa, Makabayan….
a platform defined by surged of time

Lean has stood up!
contending Marco’s Brilliance
NDs has rejoiced with pride
Lean has to give the price!

Now the fascism has gone,
In wax covered with glass
democracy so thought to lived
and freedom has in grave!

To commemorate once again
This 21st of September
is just like a story, being retold
the moral and lesson we forget!

(A poem dedicated for he unsung heroes against State suppression in Martial law time)

[In the news] ‘Bayani’ -INQUIRER.net

‘Bayani’.

By Conrado de Quiros, Philippine Daily Inquirer
August 27, 2012

I’ve been reading the comments on Jesse Robredo these past days and two things stand out.

One is the question of why Jess was lionized only in death and not in life. Or why his virtues were discovered only when he was no longer in a position to regale the world with them and not when he still could. Strange how death has a way of making people larger than life.

The commentators particularly zeroed in on the iniquity that was the Commission on Appointments (CA) refusing to confirm Jess as interior and local government secretary but now showing eagerness to do so. An offer, they said, that Jess’ wife, Leni, had every reason to spurn, however she put it ever so politely by saying she doubted that would greatly matter now to her husband. Indeed, by saying she doubted that really greatly mattered to her husband even then as he seemed perfectly content to just do his job. One might add whether feebler minds approved or not.

What can one say? The CA has never distinguished itself for the commission of enlightenment, it has always distinguished itself for the commission of benightedness. It has never really distinguished itself for the admission of high-mindedness, it has always distinguished itself for the assertion of pettiness. Proof of which is that only some months ago it flatly rejected Gus Lagman continuing to serve as a Comelec commissioner. The one person who has had a long history of ensuring clean elections as a pillar of Namfrel. The one person who knows about computerizing canvassing as a leading exponent of electoral reform in that respect.

[Event] Global Day of Remembrance of Heroes and Martyrs in the Resistance Against Mining, Oil and Gas- November 10, 2011

November 10.

On this day in 1995 Ken Saro Wiwa and 8 of his comrades were hanged by the Nigerian government of trumped up and unfounded charges because of their struggle against the destruction wrought by the oil extraction operations of Shell in the land of the Ogonis in the Niger delta.

To this day, the list of community rights defenders, human rights advocates, environmentalists, and social activists killed in the course of their struggle against mining, oil and gas around the world continues to grow longer.
