The understanding and grasp of young people about the meaning of human rights and its principles is relatively low. This is mainly due to the lack of programs regarding human rights education. Because of this many of our nation’s youth grow up with a lack of understanding about the rights that they as individuals are entitled to and which the state has the obligation to protect. In other words, without human rights education the people will not have the capacity to assert their rights in the face of the State’s failure to its obligation to respect, protect, and fulfill these rights.

The Task Force Detainees of the Philippines (TFDP), a human rights organization and a mission partner of the Association of Major Religious Superiors of the Philippines (AMRSP) has been organizing youth and students from schools, communities and parishes to form Youth for Rights (Y4R). It is an organization of student leaders, individuals, and other youth groups that seek to popularize human rights principles embodied in the United Nations’ Universal Declaration of Human Rights.

To develop individual and collective action from the school and community based in advocating human rights in and out of the school.

To establish Y4R Chapters in different schools and communities that will serve as a campaign and advocacy platform for educating, organizing, and mobilizing the students regarding issues concerning human rights and the right to development.

To generate support on the campaign on Human Rights issues by organizing school based activities in coordination with student councils, student organizations, and other groups in the academe.
To popularize human rights issues and concerns emphasizing the promotion and protection role of the government as outlined in the articles of the UDHR through different forms of activities.

1. To establish the awareness of the youth thru training and workshops.
2. Having the initiative to join movement for the campaign.
3. To establish and prolong the fellowship among youth.
4. Communion to other sector of community in terms of variety of issues.
