Teachers seek clarification on Anniversary Bonus
The Teachers’ Dignity Coalition (TDC) has asked the Department of Education (DepEd) to clarify the implementation of Anniversary Bonus (AB) for its personnel. The DepEd Order on the matter as well as press statements and public pronouncements from Sec. Briones herself, especially the one during the World Teachers’ Day celebration in Ormoc City last October 5 seem to assure that all teachers, or at least those who have served for one year by June 2018, the milestone date shall be entitled to the said incentive in the amount of P3, 000.00. However, there are some cases that teachers were told that they are not covered by the incentive, particularly in Caloocan City. The reason for this, according to the schools division office is the entitlement of most of Caloocan City teachers to said bonus which was released last year. Reports of the same scenario from other areas have also reached the TDC.
Thus, we ask for a clarification whether teachers who received the AB in relation to the milestone anniversary of their field offices will be exempted to the grant of said bonus this year. If so, teachers would be reasonable enough to understand the situation even if this contradicts the earlier pronouncements.
Finally, we wish to ask for clear-cut guidelines on this incentive so as not to create confusion.
