Portraits of Repression, Portraits of ResisTaNCe
A Photo Exhibit in the 3rd International Festival of People’s Rights and Struggles (IFPRS)

The neoliberal economic order has left workers racing to the bottom of society as transnational corporations and big businesses continue to extract super-profits from every working (wo)man’s hard labor. Workers, especially in the lower end of the global value chain survive on below-living standard wages and highly precarious employment. Given these conditions, workers are left with no choice but to resist. Collectively, workers assert the right to afford a decent and humane living and fight a system that perpetuates inequality and injustice. Acts of workers resistance however, are often met with violent repression employed by the State and/or capitalists agents. Despite these constant threats and attacks, the conscious working class movement has been resolute and steadfast in the struggle.

“Portaits of Repression, Portraits of Resistance” will exhibit photographs of the working people’s struggle against corporate greed from different countries in the age neoliberal globalization. The images in the photographs must display collective acts of resistance done by workers directed towards TNCs, a government policy relating to TNCs or to the neoliberal-capitalist system in general. Through these images, we see the distinctiveness—the brave and unwavering resolve—of each collective action against a specific company, policy or an entire system of exploitation. At the same time, we view the images in relation to our own fights, thus verifying our common realities, our collective demands, the universality of our struggle and the need for international solidarity.

The exhibit will showcase 20 to 30 photographs (in print) and will be mounted in one of the booths in the 3rd International Festival of People’s Rights and Struggles (IFPRS) on November 17, 2015 at the Bahay ng Alumni, University of the Philippines-Diliman Quezon City, Philippines. Hundreds of IFPRS participants from countries all over the world and different sectors are expected to view the exhibit.

Trade unions and workers organizations from all over the world, most especially those participating in the IFPRS are encouraged to send their photographs for exhibition.
