CEBU Archbishop Jose Palma supports calls from various sectors to review the provisions of the law that exempts a child who committed a crime at age 15 or below from criminal liability.
He said Thursday a review has implications of the social situation of the community, and that the Church is ready to assist the family members affected by the violence.
That Republic Act 9344 or the Juvenile Justice and Welfare Act of 2006 has become more of a bane than a boon to law enforcement agencies has been raised because of children getting away with serious or heinous crimes.
In Naga City, Cebu, a 16-year-old boy killed his pregnant mother and five-year-old half-sister reportedly because he was angry at his mother for not giving him money and he was jealous of his sister.
